Welcome!

Picture
We are the Thompson Lab at the University of Idaho. Our research goals center around the use of Earth-abundant transition metals to affect useful and interesting synthetic transformations. We use a wide suite of spectroscopic techniques  to characterize these novel molecules and probe their potential as catalysts. Students in the Thompson Lab can expect to become experts in:
  • Glovebox and Schlenk Line Techniques for Handling Air-sensitive Molecules
  • Isolation and Characterization of Reactive Intermediates
  • Nuclear Magnetic Spectroscopy
  • IR-Spectroscopy
  • UV-Vis Spectroscopy
  • Single-Crystal X-ray Diffraction
  • Kinetic Analysis
