Welcome!

We are the Thompson Lab at the University of Idaho. Our research goals center around the use of Earth-abundant transition metals to affect useful and interesting synthetic transformations. We use a wide suite of spectroscopic techniques to characterize these novel molecules and probe their potential as catalysts. Students in the Thompson Lab can expect to become experts in:
- Glovebox and Schlenk Line Techniques for Handling Air-sensitive Molecules
- Isolation and Characterization of Reactive Intermediates
- Nuclear Magnetic Spectroscopy
- IR-Spectroscopy
- UV-Vis Spectroscopy
- Single-Crystal X-ray Diffraction
- Kinetic Analysis
